PRICING

I’VE NEVER HIRED A MURALIST BEFORE.  HOW MUCH IS IT GOING TO COST?

This is probably the most common question that I get asked and the most difficult to answer.  I can tell you that all of my pricing is on a project by project basis. I estimate how many days the mural will take and then I will present you with a proposal which will include the cost of painting the mural and all additional supplies.

I don’t offer a price per square foot because the price is very dependent on the detail of each square foot. Clearly, painting a blue background doesn’t cost as much as painting a hyper-realistic animal or person.

There are a few major factors that affect the price of a mural:

How detailed will the mural be? If there are a lot of faces or intricate designs, this requires much more time and will be priced accordingly.

How large is the wall? This is the clearest factor when calculating cost. A larger wall just takes more time to paint.

How easy is it to access the wall? Is it 50 feet tall? Is there a planter or uneven ground in front of the wall? Will we need to rent a scissor lift or boom? These are all factors that slow down the process and will lead to a more expensive project.

Where will the mural be painted?

ALL PROJECTS HAVE A MINIMUM OF  $250

QUESTIONS
1. HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Please fill out the  online quote.  I will set up a consultation within the next week.

2. HOW LONG DOES A MURAL NORMALLY TAKE?

Of course, every project is different. On average, most residential murals take 1-2 days. Commercial murals tend to average 5 days.

3. ARE THE PAINTS TOXIC?

I use paints that are the same as the latex paint that is used to paint your home. I mix them with high quality artist's acrylics which are all low VOC . However, for an additional fee, no VOC paints can be used.

4. DO I NEED TO PAINT AND PREP THE WALL FIRST?

Often, the wall color can be incorporated into the mural. If it is necessary to paint the wall, I will help you pick paint colors and can paint the wall for you. Please save a small amount of the wall paint for touch ups

5. DO I NEED TO BE ON SITE WHILE ERIK IS PAINTING?

It is best if you are present for the first hour of the first day of painting. This is when I will draw a preliminary sketch on the wall with chalk and decide on the colors used.

6. DOES ERIK DRAW SKETCHES BEFORE HE PAINTS?

Sketches can be done for a fee. However, on the first day of painting, I will draw the mural on the wall with chalk. This is a great time to make changes in the layout.

7. HOW AND WHEN DO I PAY?

I accept checks, cash and Venmo payments.

A 25% deposit is due when a project date is set. The remaining 75% is due upon completion of the project. Payment plans are available upon request.

9. WILL ERIK TRAVEL TO PAINT A MURAL?

I work throughout California and Arizona for larger projects.

10. DISCOUNTS TO NON-PROFITS SUCH AS SCHOOLS, CHURCHES AND COMMUNITY GROUPS?

Yes. I love to help out my community and I work with many local organizations. Feel free to talk to me about your organization.

11. HOW LONG DOES A MURAL LAST AND CAN A TOPCOAT BE APPLIED?

Exterior and interior murals are painted with high quality paint and will last as long as typical latex paint. The paint will fade slightly over time, but most murals will last for decades. A topcoat can be applied if the mural is in a high traffic area.

12. CAN ERIK WORK AROUND MY BUSINESS HOURS?

Yes. I am willing to work on nights and weekends if painting would otherwise interfere with your flow of business. However, most customers love to watch the creation of a mural, and having me paint during business hours will often bring interested customers into your place of business.
